Interesting article on a possible release date of this film from this site. thefilmstage.com/news/do-we-finally-have-a-release-window-for-alfonso-cuaron%e2%80%99s-%e2%80%98gravity%e2%80%99/In a different universe we’d be seeing Alfonso Cuaron‘s highly-anticipated sci-fi epic Gravity in less than a week, but the film was pushed to a vague 2013 slot with zero word from Warner Bros. outside of a recent MPAA rating. With the project now undergoing its third test screening in Los Angeles as of this week, we continue to dig for details due to the lack of announcements and something worth noting popped up this morning. Buried in a press release in which WB and IMAX announced they’d partner for up to 20 films released in the format over the next few years, the companies gave a look at their 2013 slate. In this exact, precise order they listed the following films: Jack the Giant Slayer (March 1, 2013); Man of Steel (June 14, 2013); Pacific Rim (July 12, 2013); 300: Rise of an Empire (August 2, 2013); Gravity; Seventh Son (October 18, 2013); The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (December 13, 2013). From a quick glance, one can see they placed Gravity in between August and October, one of the few breaks in the WB schedule. We predicted as much with the last announcement and if this indeed comes to fruition, it would be a fitting place for the reportedly esoteric film starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. If they went for a September bow, this could also mean a fall festival debut, so as we await any news at all from WB regarding the project, we’ll update with confirmation.

George Clooney talks about this movie on his recent interview, and this site has some quotes. I'm not sure if he talks more in the actual magazine. blogs.indiewire.com/thompsononhollywood/words-of-wisdom-from-george-clooney-fame-failure-success-details-on-cuarons-gravity-and-monuments-menGeorge Clooney shares many words of wisdom -- on fame, success, failure, etc -- In his interview for Omega's Lifetime magazine (he's a spokesman). He also talks about his upcoming "Gravity" directed by Alfonso Cuaron (he gushes over the "Children of Men" filmmaker and says co-star Sandra Bullock is "off-the-charts great"). Clooney's next directing project, the caper heist film "The Monuments Men," has a tone similar to "The Great Escape" and "Bridge Too Far." As he looks back at his career highs and lows and considers the view forward, he's committed to pushing boundaries. And aging doesn't bother him: "I have two options," he says; "Get old or die!" More highlights from his interview below: On Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity": "It's two people floating in space. It's really high concept and it'll either be an amazing film or just awful! I think it's gonna be unbelievably beautiful and an unbelievably great movie. And Sandra Bullock is off-the-charts great,..She's so good in the movie. I think it's gonna be a beautiful, beautiful film. But it's a big risk. To have Alfonso basically saying, 'I'm gonna put you you guys in space suits and make this a story about survival and really about your own sort of persona journey.' I think it's a very brave film,..I love, love, love, love Alfonso. There's a guy who truly is an artist."

Hey people, just two brief things: 1 - IMDB states a release date, 18 oct 2013. Not sure how real this can be. 2 - There is this supossedly update from Rope of Sillicon, but it does not say anything we dont know before... just the plot and no pictures, unlike other of the movies listed here. www.ropeofsilicon.com/2013-warner-bros-preview/4/If IMDB release date is true, then we can say they are going for the awards season after showing it in some festivals. Sitges, perhaps?

Hey, thanks for those info. I really don't understand why WB hasn't announced the release date since the movie seems to have been completed or very close to completion.
Anywy, I don't think IMDb's release date is correct. I think they probably mixed up the information when WB announced their lineup in November. I posted the lineup before (see my post on Nov 16);
...20 films released in the format over the next few years, the companies gave a look at their 2013 slate.
As you can see, "Gravity" is before "Seventh Son", which is scheduled for Octber 18. So, I guess someone at IMDb read that date for both movies, but a major studio doesn't release two movies on the same date. So, I would think they will release "Gravity" sometime in September or early October.
I agree with you about the festivals. Maybe it could be for Venice or Telluride or Toronto. Not sure about Stiges... the film seems to be a bit too big or mainstream for that festival, but I'm not so familiar with Stiges. But I'm sure WB will target this film for awards, at least for technical categories like VFX, sound, cinematography, etc.

Finally! And I hope it lives up to all the expectations generated around it. Do we know who "Gravity" is competing against? I know that the same day a Vince Vaughn comedy will be released, "Paranoia" with Harrison Ford , "Star Wars III" will get a re-release in 3D, and the one that most worries me: "Sin city 2". Around the same days there will be releases like the sequel of "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs", Tom Hanks biopic "Captain Philips", action packed "The tomb" with Schwarzzenagger and Stallone and "Machete kills". Many challenges? "Gravity" has garnered a lot of expectations, people really wants to see it because of the buzz that caused (which has slowed down but I am sure is gonna return as the release date approaches) and both actors have a loyal fan. Go, Sandra, and beat all your records!

I'm not so optimistic about the box office of this film. I mean, Sandy's hardcore fans will see it anyway but this seems to be very much sci-fi and dark. I hope it'll get great reviews. Alfonso Cuaron seems to have fans among critics. This site has some info on the movie. blogs.indiewire.com/thompsononhollywood/release-date-announced-for-cuarons-gravity-del-toro-says-first-third-of-film-is-practically-a-single-camera-shotAlfonso Cuaron's mysterious sci-fi film "Gravity," starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, has finally set a theatrical release date: October 4, 2013. And it promises to continue the long-take strategy Cuaron pursued on stylistically innovative "Children of Men," which did not set the box office on fire. ShowBizCafe sat down briefly with Cuaron's fellow Three Amigos friend and Cha Cha Cha partner Guillermo del Toro in December, asking him for intel on the movie. Del Toro said of the film: "I'm not sure if it's going to revolutionize the film industry, but it pushes abundantly the limits of narrative structure. It has an opening sequence that is very long, the first third of the film is practically a single camera shot. Alfonso achieves this so smoothly. It's a movie that has youc it had me at the edge of my seat the whole time. I saw it as a friend, I saw it incomplete, as always, we exchange critiques, commentary, and I hope to see it again soon." Cuaron's first feature film since 2006's "Children of Men," "Gravity" was initially scheduled to hit theaters this past November, but was indefinitely delayed. However, the 2013 October release bodes well for the film -- that's prime Oscar season, and Warner Bros. must like it enough to think it has awards potential. The film will be rated PG-13.

Thanks for the info! WB's May release is "The Great Gatsby," so I'm guessing they are going to debut the trailer with that film.
