What a relief! "Gravity" opens with $17.5M on Friday and aims at $50M on opening weekend. Wow. Sandy topped her career best again. I'm actually surprised that this will be George's career best opening too. www.thewrap.com/sandra-bullock-and-george-clooneys-gravity-rocketing-toward-october-box-office-record/3D drives $17.5M opening day and has space epic on $50M pace. Congratulations on crew & cast. Their 5-year efforts proved to be worthy. Still estimate, but opening weekend is looking really good with $55,550,000 in US. The actuals will come on Monday US time. I hope there won't be too much differences between the estimates and actuals. www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&id=gravity.htmAttachments:

"Gravity" had a great 1st week. www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?view=7day&sortdate=2013-10-10&p=.htmUS Week 1 (Oct 4 - Oct 10, 2013) Gross: $79,134,919 Rank #1 Theatre Count: 3,575 Average: $22,136 Budget: $100M (speculation between $80M - $120M) US Gross as of Oct 10, 2013: $79,134,919 (73.6%)Foreign as of Oct 6, 2013: $28,400,000 (26.4%)Worldwide Gross as of Oct 10, 2013: $107,534,919The theatres will be increased to 3,660, and it's expected to be #1 again with around $30M for 2nd weekend. It'll go over $100M in US domestic for sure till Sunday. But actually, "The Blind Side" earned $40M for its 2nd weekend with less theatres and no 3D or IMAX. Yes, it was Thanksgiving holiday season, but still, that's how well TBS was received. TBS eventually earned $256M in US. I wonder if "Gravity" could go over it. At the moment, I don't think so. Hopefully it'll earn equally to US and worldwide gross should become Sandy's career best.

So, the 2nd weekend was great too. Really great. I just hope WB had announced the estimates a bit lower, then the end result sounded much better. (They estimated over $1M more.) www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/US Weekend 2 (Oct 11 - Oct 13, 2013) Weekend Gross: $43,188,256 Rank #1 Theatre Count: 3,660 (+85) Average: $11,800 Budget: $100M (speculation between $80M - $120M) US Gross as of Oct 13, 2013: $122,323,175Foreign as of Oct 13, 2013: $68,000,000Worldwide Gross as of Oct 13, 2013: $190,323,175Although the film is #1 at many countries, the gross doesn't sound so impressive. Good news is that China approved its release this year (they have a limit of foreign movies up to 34 in a year), and China is a big country for 3D, so this one should do well. A bit bad news is that this can't be released in IMAX in France as they secured IMAX for their local film. Remaining major countries include Mexico (Oct 18), France (Oct 23), UK (Nov 8), China (Nov?) and Japan (Dec 13). For US domestic, it looks like it could reach around $170M by the end of this month. So, even after losing 3D & IMAX to other films in November, it should earn over $200M by the time all those awards nomination begin in Dec.

It has earned almost $180M US domestic in 21 days! "Gravity" ruled the October box office. According to the Box Office Mojo's analysis, it'll probably reach $260M by the end of the run. "Gravity" has grossed over $400M worldwide. It has become Sandy's career best box office worldwide (unadjusted; if adjusted, I think "Speed" is still number one). For domestic, it may not still be able to beat "The Blind Side." www.boxofficemojo.com/people/chart/?view=Actor&id=sandrabullock.htmwww.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-milestone-gravity-rockets-652789Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity has orbited past the $400 million mark worldwide. Through Sunday, the Warner Bros. film has grossed $219.2 million in North America and $207.5 million overseas, a stunning achievement considering older moviegoers are fueling the film's success. To boot, Gravity -- starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney -- is now the biggest live-action October release of all time, not accounting for inflation, surpassing the $376.1 million worldwide earned by Taken 2 (the top October release is Puss in Boots, which took in $555 million globally in 2011). And Gravity is already the top-grossing October film of all time in North America, besting the $166.2 million earned by Meet the Parents in 2000. Over the weekend, Gravity placed No. 5 in North America in its fifth weekend, grossing $13.1 million. Internationally, it continues to gain momentum, it took in $27.1 million from 55 markets. Gravity is a huge hit in France, where it has now earned $27.1 million. Korea follows with $20.7 million. Box office observers now agree that Gravity will ultimately earn $550 million to $600 million worldwide, boosting the film's awards chances. Gravity, produced by David Heyman, has yet to open in the U.K. (Nov. 8), China (Nov. 20) and Japan (Dec. 13). Attachments:
